Why Are We Doing This Again?
As we prepare to tear down the blue office building, God has recently provided ample occasions to remind me why we are doing this. Two Sundays ago, I convened a family conference with a parish family to plan how the extended family members could support a seriously ill parishioner. Fifteen family members showed up. We had to relocate the parish collection counters to another room. Even so, the family meeting was held in cramped quarters inadequate to the profound feelings and emotions of the event.
Later the same week - I had a person in my office, the larger room had a meeting going on, and a person in the midst of an emotional crisis arrived. I had to meet with her in the dining room open to visitors’ ears and staff. While this was happening, a street person arrived and again no adequate space for pastoral care was available.
I believe you will be happy when you experience the new Pastoral Center with enough space and appropriate room for the pastoral mission of our community.

If you are desiring baptism for your child, you are required to attend a Baptism Preparation Class. This gathering gives information about the sacrament, the rights and responsibilities of the baptized, and explains the ritual and symbols involved in the baptismal rite. In addition, it gives parents a chance to meet other parents with children in the same age range, and is a wonderful way to foster community.
The next baptism class is scheduled for June 11th at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Office. Please call Peg to register. Expectant parents are most welcome! We will be scheduling our classes about four times a year, with the next class being held in the fall.

Many parishioners and staff have asked for information on the Catholic Church’s response to the cyclone of May 2 that devastated Myanmar (formerly known as Burma.) In part because of the sensitive realities on the ground, the immediate and ongoing response by Catholic church agencies has not been widely publicized. However, please know that our agency, Catholic Relief Services (CRS), has been and is responding through Caritas Internationalis, whose emergency response efforts are underway in Mayanmar’s Ayeyarwady division and Yangon districts, two of the areas hardest hit by Cyclone Nargis, for an estimated 40,000 people who will receive vital relief, including food, shelter, water, medical care and psychological support.
More and updated information on the response efforts can be found at http://crs.org. If parishes wish to donate to CRS for Myanmar response, checks can be made out to CRS and sent to the Missions Office, 710 9th Ave, Seattle, WA 98104. Thank you for all you do to serve those most in need here and overseas.
