As you are journeying through the preparation to receive the sacrament of Confirmation you are asked to have a sponsor. A sponsor is ideally an adult who is Confirmed and who practices the Catholic faith. The idea of a sponsor for each candidate is so that you might have another spiritually centered adult with whom you can talk about spirituality and the experiences that are part of the preparation process.
A sponsor should be someone other than a parent or a sibling. It is understood that parents and siblings will be supportive and encouraging of the preparation process, and so it is ideal that another adult is invited to journey with you to be a guide and an example of faithful Christian living.
