The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick

The sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is available to anyone who is seriously ill, facing surgery, or experiencing the ailments of advancing age. It is a sacrament of healing and strength intended for those who are ill, not necessarily dying. Experiencing this sacrament would involve the candidate accompanying Fr. Jack as he administers anointing either at the church, in the homes, or hospital rooms of those who have requested it.

After their involvement in the sacramental experience the candidate is asked to reflect on it and record their reflection in any medium the candidate chooses, such as:

Writing or journaling
Music
Poetry
Art

What will I be doing?

You will:

1) have an initial meeting with Father,
2) accompany Fr. Jack as he goes to anoint someone,
3) spend some time in personal reflection around what you have experienced,
4) record the process of your reflection through some medium comfortable to you,
5) attend a group reflection meeting to share your reflections with your sponsor, other candidates, Fr. Jack and Peg.
